The physiotherapy department at North Middlesex University Hospital is recruiting enthusiastic, forward-thinking team players to join our dynamic service. We are looking for physiotherapists who are motivated to achieve their potential. You will work within a supportive team of clinical specialists, Band 7 and Band 6 physiotherapists gaining the relevant experience needed to move forward to senior roles.
Your caseload will be varied and interesting, rotating through:
• Acute stroke/Neurology
• Medical/oncology
• Respiratory/ICU
• Orthopaedics
• Musculoskeletal outpatients
• Acute medicine for the elderly
You will also have regular supervision, in-service training and teaching to further develop your skills. We will support you in developing to be able to supervise you own students.
CPD funding is available for appropriate course identified through training needs analysis

To perform physiotherapy assessments and treatments within each rotation, working as an autonomous practitioner. To effectively liaise with patients, carers and members of the MDT in both verbal and written format.
To consolidate your knowledge and skills within each rotation and use these in other rotations. To assist Team Leaders in running a clinically cost-effective Service.
To seek advice and support from senior staff or colleagues when you feel unsure about any clinical or process matters. To fully participate in the 7-day rota in your rotation and the emergency oncall (night-time rota).
To participate fully in the rotation scheme.
To keep accurate daily statistical records to support the Finance department.
To maintain an up-to-date CPD portfolio which supports your HCPC registration.
To support the Service in achieving the London Quality Standards mandated on the Trust.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical
• Clinically, legally and professionally responsible for each patient in your care
• Perform physiotherapy assessments on a range of patients ensuring you comply with HCPC & local standards
• Design and implement tailored management programmes for patients presenting with a range of simple, complex and highly complex conditions (with Senior support) and treat them as an autonomous practitioner
• Use a variety of assessment and treatment techniques using well developed observational, palpatory and empathetic investigative and analytical skills
• You will use clinical reasoning skills to formulate hypotheses
• Create an impairment list following your patient assessment and document a timed treatment plan for each patient. You will create a patient-centred goal list related to both impairments and functional outcomes
• Understand the duty of care you have to each patient you are treating and how duty of care impacts on the prioritization of your caseload.
• Able to evaluate treatment outcomes, progress treatment programmes and discharge when appropriate. (Treatments will include a range of skilled options such as manual therapy, using physiotherapy adjuncts, handling unconscious and/or paralysed patients etc.)
• Be required to give planned or spontaneous advice and information to patients and carers including an explanation about the individual responsibility both patients and physiotherapist will appropriately take for the patient's treatment, progress and management
• Assess patients for special equipment (e.g. walking aids, bespoke splints) and organise provision of this when necessary
• Advise patients on the safe use of all equipment issued and ensure that all legal requirements are met
• Alert your supervisor when stock is getting low
• Keep appropriate, accurate treatment records which fulfil legal and statistical requirements relating to information governance and which are in accordance with departmental & Trust policies and procedures
• Participate in the 7-day rota for your rotation and the emergency on-call night-time rota when you have been assessed as competent to do so. This will involve the assessment and treatment of patients on the wards, A & E and intensive care units.
• Consult the responsible senior member of staff for advice regarding complex patients, difficult liaison problems or where specialised or highly specialised treatments are involved
• Develop the ability and skill of prioritising your own workload with supervisory assistance of the Senior Physiotherapist
• Be able to treat patients, when appropriate, in individual or group treatment sessions.
• Understand the role of the PTA/Technical Instructor and delegate appropriate work to this grade of staff
• You may be required to treat patients in a variety of settings, e.g. hospital, school or home as appropriate for each rotation
• Contribute to the development of patient care by attending relevant team, departmental and care group meetings and make recommendations / suggestions regarding changes to clinical care or service provision.
GOVERNANCE & CLINICAL GOVERNANCE
• Ensure your HCPC registration is in date at all times and notify the Professional Lead for Physiotherapy of any changes in your HCPC status.
• Take personal responsibility for ensuring your statutory and mandatory training is complete and up -to-date. You will adhere to all Health & Safety policies & procedures and actively seek out training and advice when necessary.
• Register clinical and non-clinical incidents which may affect patient care, your colleagues, visitors, contractors or yourself.
• Assist senior staff and the Trust in audit processes. You will be an active participant in trust ADR and PDP system.
• Participate in the collection of accurate statistics and reports required to monitor and evaluate the service.
• May be involved in a Physiotherapy Clinical Governance activity, (clinical case-note audit, Hip fracture database, National Stroke
• Audit (SNNAP), Planned to actual treatment delivery)
• Comply with or aspire to comply with all NICE and CQC guidance and show an awareness of best, and evidence based practice.
• Will have supervision on a weekly basis with a senior staff member in your rotation – this may take different forms eg: case note audit, observed assessment or treatment, caseload reviews, clinical reasoning review or pastoral meeting. You will have 1 hour of planned Self Education Time at work per week (under review March 2014)
• Have weekly IST within your rotation (1 hour
EDUCATION & TRAINING
• Have the ability to communicate with a range of people including patients, carers and staff across a range of ages and cultures. You will develop and seek feedback on your communication skills from your colleagues and Team Leaders.
• Liaise with members of the multidisciplinary team in formal and informal meetings(Consultants, Nurses, Speech and Language Therapists, Dietitians, Teachers, Care Workers, Social Workers and Link-workers etc.) to develop and agree management programmes for patients in your care.
• To provide accurate written and verbal reports to a variety of social, legal and health organisations when necessary.
• To work as an integral member of each department / rotation and attend staff and management meetings as required.
• Liaise with your Team Leader regarding annual leave, professional training and all aspects to do with the physiotherapy rotational posts.
